This phenomenon, whereby electrons in atoms get liberated by the absorption of energy from incident light, is called the photoelectric effect. I also think this is a more straightforward derivation, since it completely avoids any need to deal with "specific heat ratios" or "adiabatic processes." It is a great merit of the de Broglie-Bohm picture to force us to consider this fact. The particle property of energy and matter: when we measure the position of a quantum object, we pin it down, as it were, to a particle-like state - i.e., previous to our measurement, the object wasn’t really anywhere in ordinary space-time; it only had a probabilistic wave nature; after we measure its position, it gets a real position in ordinary space-time.

The number of periods per unit time is called the linear (or ordinary) frequency. Figure 3.13 illustrates a rather peculiar situation.
